Mehmet – from Anatolia to Fiss
Sometime in the early 1980s, Mehmet Aglamaz made his way from Anatolia to Fiss as a young man. His brother was already working at the ‘Alt Fiss’ (predecessor of today’s Chesa Monte) at the time and had urged him to come to Austria as well. The ‘Alt Fiss’ was the ‘in’ restaurant in Fiss at the time. Traditional Tyrolean cuisine with a touch of the exotic – plus daily live music and après-ski.

Mehmet started his career at Chesa Monte in the traditional way as a dishwasher – through in-house training and courses, he continued to develop his skills and rose to become the head chef’s deputy. After many years of loyalty to Chesa Monte, Mehmet decided to take the plunge and became self-employed. Over the years, he founded a very successful greengrocer’s shop and ran several restaurants and pizzerias.
In 2021, Mehmet handed over his business to his eldest son and returned ‘back to the roots’ at Chesa Monte.
Paul Bocuse
‘It is not good cooking if it is not made out of friendship with the person for whom it is intended.’
And what is Mehmet doing at Chesa Monte today?
Mehmet is our ‘breakfast king’ – the indescribable variety at the breakfast buffet is his work. It is very important to him that everyone finds something for themselves. Whether savoury or sweet, cold or warm – the choice at breakfast is limitless. His aim is to spoil all his guests (he also pays particular attention to the needs of people with allergies). Always trying out and serving new delicacies. And countless reviews on Holidaycheck, in which Mehmet is praised to the skies, testify to the fact that he succeeds 100%.
Communicating with the guests, joking with them and organising breakfast in such a way that you can start a sporty day well fortified – that is the motivation for what he does.
And the pampering programme continues:
Strudel buffet, Kiachla and Kaiserschmarren – Mehmet serves up everything that makes a ‘sweet afternoon’ an experience over the course of a week.
What could be nicer than enjoying the afternoon on the hotel terrace with a slice of homemade apple strudel and a good cup of coffee? A chat with friends, a joke with Mehmet – that’s how carefree and full of delicacies holidays at Chesa Monte are.
Mehmet private
Not far from Fiss, Mehmet has created a home for his family. In addition to his wife, the extended family also includes 3 children and children-in-law. His two grandsons make his happiness perfect.
His passions are swimming and travelling. These two hobbies can be perfectly combined on holiday in his old home country of Turkey. But in the meantime, ‘being a grandad’ soon takes precedence over these two hobbies ;-).
