Head of service Monika
Monika Wagner
Moni grew up in the Mühlviertel region of Upper Austria. Socialising was always the order of the day in her family. The village festivals organised by her grandfather are legendary. As a little girl, Moni loved the hustle and bustle at these parties and eagerly helped with the serving to the delight of the guests. Her dream of becoming a waitress was born.
But first she went to Rohrbach to the HLW (Höhere Lehranstalt für wirtschaftliche Berufe). A work placement is compulsory at this school. Moni’s first work placement took her and her friend Melanie to the Chesa Monte in Fiss at the age of 16. And it was here that the spark that had already flickered in her childhood became a burning passion – catering.
After graduating from high school, she had to try out a few things – jobs ranging from flight attendant to patisserie. She travelled all over Central Europe – via Upper Austria, Vienna and Tyrol to Zurich. And along the way, she trained as a wine sommelier. Further training is a big topic, by the way – the next thing on her to-do list is international training as a bartender in Barcelona.
In 2023, Moni turned her back on the big city and returned to Chesa Monte as service manager – where her enthusiasm for gastronomy had begun.
Moni loves making sure that her guests at Chesa Monte “have a great time” and take this feeling home with them as a little piece of happiness. As head of our service team, it is very important to her that there is a positive atmosphere and a good mood.
Moni finds rest and relaxation in yoga and running – and the sub-zero temperatures in winter in Fiss don’t stop her.
African proverb
“Many small people, in many small places, doing many small things, can change the face of this world.”
Moni's Engagement
Something that Moni was given by her mum from an early age – trying to make the world a little better.
She is committed to the environment – during the time when the hotel is closed, she works as a volunteer for Greenlion Bali – an organisation that is committed to making the island a better place to live for its inhabitants. The aim is also to increase the population of sea turtles again.
The tasks on Bali are varied and diverse – collecting rubbish on the beach and on the street, building pools for turtles, cleaning, painting, restoring, caring for turtles, nursing injured animals.
How would you describe yourself, Moni?
I would describe myself as a very positive person and I love it when I can infect people with it. Meeting people makes life worth living for me. Adventures and getting to know new places make it exciting. Travelling is the perfect combination for me. That’s exactly what I need – because if everything is always monotonous, then that’s nothing for me 😄
