Hike through the Piller Moor to the Gogles Alm

Travel by car to the Gachenblick. Cross the road at the Piller Moor parking lot and follow the Piller Moor nature trail to the fountain. From there, the route branches off on a beautiful forest trail, briefly on a forest path and later over beautiful alpine meadows to the Gogles Alm, which you reach at the back. Continue a few more meters until you reach the main entrance with a wonderful sun terrace and return to the starting point via the same route.

From the "Gachenblick" - we have a fantastic panoramic view from the Lechtal Alps to the Samnaun group. Here we are in the core zone of the Kaunergrat Nature Park (Pitztal-Kaunertal), which was initiated by nine municipalities in the region.

As a result of being shielded on all sides by high mountain ridges, this is a dry area with little precipitation and a low frequency of fog. Föhn winds play a not insignificant role for the vegetation. On the one hand, this warm southerly wind has a drying effect, but on the other hand it also favors the warmth-loving flora and fauna, as we can observe in exemplary fashion on the dry slopes of the Fließer and Kaunerberg.

The fact that there are so many moors despite the dryness is partly due to the terrain of the Piller Sattel. After the ice age, bodies of water formed on the flat areas, in hollows, troughs etc., which became moors as a result of sedimentation processes. The moor has been designated a "natural monument" since 1971. Over 20 years ago, a nature trail was created by the mountain rescue service, which was renovated and updated by the Kaunergrat Nature Park Association in the summer of 2000.
