History

The story of the Chesa Monte began in 1968, when the young Alois Winkler opened his first guesthouse in Fiss at the age of just 19. The "Pension Winkler" had just six guest rooms, but even then this small building held the vision of something big - a place of hospitality where people felt at home. Tourism in Fiss was still in its infancy, but Alois had a sense that the Alpine region held a hidden gem for relaxation and enjoyment.

The years went by and tourism picked up more and more speed. In 1978, Alois and his wife Maria opened the "Alt Fiss" restaurant. It quickly became a popular meeting place, not only for guests from the region, but also for people from far beyond the borders of Tyrol. Even back then, the "five o'clock tea" with dancing and music embodied what we call charezza today: the combination of warmth, joy and a sense of belonging. A place where everyone felt welcome and where community and closeness were celebrated.

In the early 1990s, when the guesthouse was converted and expanded into a sports hotel, the Chesa Monte took shape - a name that comes from the Rhaeto-Romanic language and means "house on the mountain". With the vision of offering guests a place of peace and enjoyment, the new hotel was opened in 1991.

In 2006, Carina Winkler, the hotel's daughter, took over the management and carefully developed the hotel further. The "Alt Fiss" restaurant became an elegant dining room.

In 2014, 21 feel-good suites and the sun pavilion were added.

With the renovation of all the rooms in the main building, the redesign of the indoor pool, the façade and the hotel lobby, the Chesa Monte finally found its current form as a ****S hotel.
