Serfaus
The free SFL shuttle takes us from Fiss to Serfaus, the starting point of the hike. We take the gondola lift up to Lazid (2,346 m). Via the Scheid (2,429 m) we descend through the Lader Moos to the Böderhütte with its magnificent edelweiss slope.
Descend via the so-called "Stiege" to the Lawensalm (1,907 m). The way back leads via the Trujensteig to the Kölner Haus (1,965 m). Take the gondola lift to Serfaus and the hiking bus back to Fiss.
On narrow paths past edelweiss slopes to the managed cow pasture in the municipality of Ladis.
An "Alm" or "Alpe" is a pasture area above the tree line. These pastures offer the animals (mostly young cattle and sheep) excellent fodder, exercise and good air (factors that most people also appreciate).
Austria - land of alpine pastures! Alpine pastures have been farmed in the Alps for more than 3000 years. Even the first inhabitants used the open areas above the tree line for their livestock farming. Austria occupies a leading position in Europe in terms of the intensity of Alpine pasture farming. There are still well over 11,000 alpine pastures where around half a million head of cattle are kept in summer.
